The greatest sign of my anticipation for an open-ended game is the sentence “Think of the possibilities!” running through my mind over and over again. It’s happened with many, The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Fallout 3 to name a few. At this moment, though, that chant of optimism is being sung with the following games in mind: The Witcher 3, Metal Gear Solid V, Rust, a few others, and now Divinity: Original Sin. Continue Reading

Remember that The Walking Dead game? Well, it was kind of a big deal. The dramatic post-apocalyptic adventure game is — as we have known for a while now — getting a new season. But now, it seems we’re going to find out some specifics on the upcoming release very soon. Continue Reading
It’s a shame Titanfall didn’t end up being an Xbox One launch title. Luckily though, we wont have to wait too terribly long for it. Continue Reading
Rockstar games and unbridled ambition have always sat in synonymic harmony. But as of late, the company’s successes have been thanks to something much deeper than gargantuan cityscapes and the lively streets that accompany them. The tale of a tragic hero – or anti-hero in the case of Grand Theft Auto – with Niko Bellic and John Marston being Macbeths of their respective times. Though over the years it’s become a tired formula. A “hero”, a problem, and an end, though a minimalist descriptor for two of the most highly-acclaimed story-centric games of late, it’s a fair one. So having a Rockstar narrative – recurrently focused on the thorough development of a single character with others acting primarily as supplement – include three protagonists, is as flashy a proposal as it is a daunting one. Many of the developer’s devout refused to think twice about the challenges related to the additional player-characters, fully trusting in Rockstar’s moxie to pull-off the feat. While they don’t do so with perfection, they don’t stray far from it. Continue Reading
I don’t really know what it is about online communities, but it seems like they’re always looking to get upset about something. One of their latest targets was the 2DS. Sure, the name’s a bit silly, it makes it sound like a lesser system than the 3DS, and it looks sort of goofy, and it will surely spawn some marketing issues, but in all honesty, it’s a pretty great idea. You know what? It’s almost a shame we have so many good games to play nowadays… hear me out. If I had played The Bureau about seven years ago my mind would have been completely blown. But in this age where games like Mass Effect and Bioshock exist, I can’t help but feel incredibly blasé about this alien shoot-em-up. The Bureau is just okay, and in this day and age, that’s an issue. Continue Reading
